Purpose: Angiogenesis refers to the formation of new blood vessels from existing vessels, which is an important event in various physiological processes. In this study, the role of exercise along with the consumption of cinnamon bark extract on the expression of important genes in angiogenesis in diabetic male rats was examined.
Methods: In this study, 24 diabetic male rats (50 mg/kg streptozotocin (STZ)) with 180-220-gram weight and 8-10 weeks old, were randomly divided into four groups, consisting of 1- Control diabetic (CD), 2-Diabetic+cinnamon (D+CZ), 3- Diabetic+exercise (D+E), 4- Diabetic+cinnamon+exercise (D+CZ+E). To investigate the effect of diabetes induction on research variables, six rats were in the healthy control group. Then groups three and four trained for eight weeks, five sessions per week and each session for 10-30 minutes at a speed of 10-18 meters per minute and Groups two and five received 200 mg / kg of cinnamon extract daily by gavage. One-way analysis of variance and Tukey's post hoc test in SPSS software version 22 software were used to analyze the data (P ≥ 0.05).
Results: endothelin-1 (P ≥ 0.05) and eNOS (P ≥ 0.05) gene expression in the diabetic control group were significantly higher than the healthy control group. eNOS and VEGF levels in the exercise group, cinnamon consumption group and endurance training group + cinnamon were not significantly different from the diabetic control group (P ≤ 0.05). But endothelin-1 levels in the endurance training + cinnamon group were higher than the diabetic control group (P ≥ 0.05).
Conclusions:
Endurance training and cinnamon bark extract with the present study method amount do not have a significant effect on some angiogenesis markers in the heart tissue of diabetic rats, although due to limited information on the mechanism of the effect of streptozotocin on angiogenesis in Cardiac tissue further studies are needed in this area.
